6 Basic Steps for Effective Decision Making
Updated: Feb 19, 2019
Making the right decision can be stressful. Try using these basic steps to make an informed decision:
1) Identify the Problem
Recognize the problem or opportunity and decide to address the problem. Be clear about what the issue is, and determine who needs to be involved in making the decision.
2) Gather Information
Don't rely on hearsay. Base decisions on facts and data whenever possible. What do you need to know to make an informed decision?
3) Identify Alternatives
What are the various solutions? Weigh the pros and cons and select the option that has the highest chance of success.
Make the decision based on the findings, and understand any risks involved.
5) Implement the Decision
Create a plan and determine who will be involved. Get others on board with your decision.
6) Review the Decision
Evaluate your decision for effectiveness. What could go better next time?
